Americans and Cultural perception

As Americans we are surrounded by many different people and cultures, which explains why we are called the melting pot country. Many people in this country are satisfied with there own culture and don`t really want to broaden there horizons. Many Americans simply do not wont to leave or worry about another country.
Most of our citizens only want to learn and speak English, or on some occasions Spanish. But in other countries it is a requirement to learn other languages, because it is important to be able to communicate with many different people. Many Americans are afraid of emerging Ourselves into the depths of the many cultures there are.

Cultural lens is a tough thing for many people to know they have in day to day contact. Our perception of ourselves and others is based solely on how our society society labels us. Some people you might see may look very poor to you but to someone of another country they might be average. How we view money is different to many other cultures, to many middle to upper class Americans money is luxery, but to many of the poorer countries and the people in it see money as survival.

  1. I totally agree with you. Americans could stand to take a lesson or two from other cultures. Who knows, we might actually learn something!

  2. Josh your idea that America is a melting pot is a good analogy of our last assignment.(Globalization) However I do agree with your view on the U.S. Dollar.

  3. I agree! The way we view ourselves is based on how society already has us labeled. I think we should decide just we would like to label ourselves, if we must provide a label for society to accept us.
